Trinity English Lutheran Church
Recent Dedication of MartinRiley design – wins Lugar Energy Award
An addition to Trinity English Lutheran Church in downtown Fort Wayne IN was recently dedicated. Nearly 11,000 ft² was added or renovated in this $5.5 million project that improved functionality, accessibility and building efficiency.
“This small addition solved numerous needs for the congregation.” Said Vic Martin, AIA, IIDA, leader of the MartinRiley design team. “It is, first of all, a place to gather before and after services for fellowship. Secondly, the addition offers an accessible (and elegant) entry to the complex. The addition also provides circulation between the East Wing and the West Wing on all levels-a feat that that was previously very difficult without traversing the sanctuary or going through the basement. Thirdly it provides a backbone for a new ground source heating and cooling system which along with a Solar Electric system, added insulation levels and complete lighting retrofit will drastically cut the Church’s energy use and carbon footprint. Fourth; it adds just enough office and meeting space to alleviate overcrowded staff and administrative space. And, lastly, the overall project added parking close to accessible entrances.”
Dave Cole, AIA, LEED AP was the MartinRiley project manager, Hagerman Inc. was the General Contractor and Shambaugh & Son the Mechanical Contractor. This project has been named a Senator Richard Luger Energy Patriot. http://lugar.senate.gov/press/record.cfm?id=318836&&
“As Fort Wayne continues a downtown revitalization project, we wanted our renovation and expansion to enhance that effort,” said Pastor Hasecke. “Parkview Field has been a wonderful addition to the area, but there are buildings that have been here for decades, such as our church, that are being upgraded as well. We are hopeful that our leadership in terms of renovating with an energy mindset will ripple further into other revitalization projects downtown.”
