Civil Engineer / Project Manager (Fort Wayne, IN)

A Civil Engineer at MartinRiley understands that part of the success of site design is measured by understanding the project goals and delivering.  Items that need to be considered are the projects context; land use, zoning, and development regulations, and cultural constraints.  Incorporating physical and natural constraints, storm water management, circulation requirements for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians, and utility availability and location.  These aspects will be incorporated into a holistic site design in coordination with the architectural, mechanical, and electrical design team. 

A successful candidate must be able to see basic concepts and ideas to completion with minimal direction and supervision, and work efficiently and productively in a team-based environment. Additionally, the candidate will perform site observation responsibilities, as well as field documentation and analysis of existing sites. Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration is a plus

  • 5 or more years’ experience in site/civil design

  • Construction document preparation and hydraulic modeling experience desired

  • Proficient with software programs such as, but not necessarily include of, all of the following:  (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, MicroStation, Storm modeling programs, etc.) inherent to successful completion of the work assigned.

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Understanding of building information modeling (BIM), specifically Revit, and a willingness to increase one’s expertise with BIM softwares

  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites, complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Manage multi-discipline site/civil projects encompassing all site utilities (i.e. sanitary, potable water, and/or storm water) as well as grading and all other site engineering aspects from planning and procurement through start-up and construction.

  • Complete all stormwater and sanitary sewer calculations for site including potential lift stations.

  • Complete full plans including specification in SpecLink format for all site parameters.

  • Research and coordinate with all respective jurisdictions regarding regulations for storm, water, sanitary, electrical and gas services to the site.

  • Deliverables typically include the oversight and/or preparation of associated permit applications (earth disturbance permits, land development plans, etc.), Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plans, Stormwater Management Plans, grading plans, design of temporary and permanent channels, culverts, infiltration, detention, and/or retention structures.  Design of temporary and permanent access roads and the development of construction plans.

  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of proposals, budgets, schedules, calculations, specifications and reports, and provide technical training and guidance to less experienced staff. 

  • Review proposed contracts to determine significant parameters, time schedules and milestones and define the major task areas.

  • Resolve problems and coordinate the final turnover of the project to the client, throughout the project.

  • Ensure contractual commitments are met and the work is being performed according to the client’s instructions.

  • Maintain effective relationships with members of all divisions and departments responsible for performing services in connection with the project.

  • Control and/or review all project forecasts, schedules, cost estimates and reports.  Responsible for quality control over the complete project.

  • Monitor fees and budgets; report problems to the appropriate Department and Division Managers.

  • Prepare or direct the preparation of progress and special reports to staff and clients.

  • Obtain client’s acceptance of work, coordinate completion of final project paperwork and preparation of final report.

  • Be actively involved in civic and professional activities, societies and organizations.

  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the company Health and Safety Plan

  • Possess aptitude to act as a positive representative of the company and its core values. 

  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects
